Natural
Highs: Supplements, Nutrition, and Mind-Body Techniques to Help
You Feel Good All the Time (Paperback)
by Hyla Cass, Patrick Holford
I
don't know about you, but I get tired of health & nutrition
books that go on and on about technical details without supplying
any real information I can use. That is why I have appreciated the
direct approach taken in Natural Highs. The authors clearly explain
how to feel better and why it works. The descriptions of neurotransmitters
and brain chemistry are sufficient without becoming tiresome. The
supplement recommendations are candid and well balanced. Important
techniques such as breathwork and meditation are also covered. This
book is readable and even entertaining. If you are curious about
natural ways to relax or improve your mood, give it a try!
The
Detox Solution: The Missing Link to Radiant Health, Abundant Energy,
Ideal Weight, and Peace of Mind (Paperback)
by Patricia Fitzgerald
What
is extraordinary about this book is both the logic of holistic-health
solutions but also addressing the spiritual side of people from
a completely open-minded, progressive standpoint. While many good
and valuable health books show alternative medicines, this one demonstrates
both through common sense as well as an extensive bibliography the
proof that eradicating toxins (in mind, body, and spirit) is the
real key. It is the real key, though often not talked about "in
polite company". People seem to want the magic pill or vitamin,
but won't think of the logic behind flushing the body of its waste,
which is a real problem in the industrialized world. As a healed
patient of Dr. Patricia, I was greatly pleased to see this book
come out to spread her excellent work to a worldwide audience. It
will remain a great resource for me and my family in the future.

Digestive
Wellness (Paperback) by Elizabeth Lipski
Not
only is the list of difficulties caused by poor digestion lengthy,
it includes many health problems that people don't immediately associate
with their digestive process. Most people know that bad breath,
indigestion, hiatal hernias, and Crohn's Disease are related to
what happens in the digestive tract. Clinical nutritionist Elizabeth
Lipski, M.S., C.C.N., also includes arthritis, autism, fibromyalgia,
psoriasis, and schizophrenia in the list of digestion-related ailments.

A
User Guide to the GF/CF Diet for Autism, Asperger Syndrome and AD/HD

by Marilyn Le Breton
(Foreword), Luke Jackson
In
this book, Luke Jackson explores the effect of the gluten free/casein
free (GF/CF) diet on himself and his family and gives practical
advice for how to apply it in everyday life. The long appendices
(they take up half the book) by his mother, Jacqui Jackson, describe
GF/CF recipes, parental notes on implementing the diet, and other
resources related to the diet.
Children
With Starving Brains: A Medical Treatment Guide for Autism Spectrum
Disorder, Second Edition (Paperback) by Jaquelyn McCandless
This
incredible book guides both parents and physicians in treatment
that can make such a difference with our children. The information
in this book is priceless for those whose lives have been changed
by an autism diagnosis. The explanations and treatment are wonderful
for both the lay person and the clinician. This book gives both
the parent and the physician a clear road map to follow and explains
in detail the many complicated "pieces of the puzzle".
It is a must read for any family affected by this disease and recommended
by many DAN! physicians nationwide like Dr. Blumenthal who work
with Autistic children using biomedical interventions.
Applied
Kinesiology: A Training Manual and Reference Book of Basic
Principles and Practices (Paperback) by George Goodheart (Foreword), Robert
Frost
Robert
Frost's AK manual is lean and to the point. It gives the history
of AK, how AK is used in Europe and the USA, theory into the
mechanisms of the reflexes used in AK, basic therapeutic procedures
with explainations, and clear diagrams of the basic muscle
tests and the appropriate reflexes. A perfect complement to
the 100 hour course. I recommend this book to any student
or practioner in health care who is looking to expand their
skill set.
Applied
Kinesiology : Muscle Response in Diagnosis, Therapy, and Preventive
Medicine (Thorson's Inside Health Series) (Paperback) by Tom Valentine, Carole Valentine, Douglas
P. Hetrick
This
book is designed to give readers an introduction to muscle testing
used in health assessment and treatment. It is written for the patient
rather than as a guide for practitioners, and thus focuses mainly
on what treatments are like, what they can accomplish, and what
can be expected from these approaches.
Healing
ADD: The Breakthrough Program That Allows You to See and Heal the
6 Types of ADD (Paperback) by Daniel G. Amen
Dr.
Amen makes an important contribution to parents' understanding of
ADD. This book is extremely thorough and well thought out, with
some interesting and intriguing theories. Several of our clients
have found helpful answers and solutions in Dr. Amen's book.
Asperger's
Syndrome: A Guide for Parents and Professionals (Paperback) by Tony Attwood
This
book is an excellent resource tool regarding Asperger's Syndrome.
Asperger's Syndrome (AS)is on the autism/Asperger's (a/A) spectrum
and has long been regarded as the "high functioning end of
the autism spectrum." Because this IS a spectrum, the behaviors
and experiences and manifestations are as varied as there are individuals
on the spectrum. However, there are certain diagnostic criteria
that have to be met in order to determine if someone has Asperger's
Syndrome or a place on the a/A spectrum.
Tony Attwood validates the behavior of people on the spectrum; he
writes in a plain, straight forward style that reaches ALL readers
from professionals to persons just learning about Asperger's. I
like the way he encourages people with Asperger's embrace and accept
this aspect of their lives. Tony Attwood makes it plain that a diagnosis
of Asperger's is NOT a death knell or a mental health condemnation;
on the contrary, he describes a place on the a/A spectrum as a baseline
for behaviors that had previously caused "undefined differences."
Asperger's is not a mental illness and this point is underscored
throughout the book. Tony Attwood's voice is one of gentleness and
acceptance; he describes behavior and sensory issues including synesthesia
(linked sensory modes) in a way that invites and opens the door
to discourse.
Empty
Harvest (Paperback)
by Bernard Jensen
The
premise of the book's subtitle - Understanding the Link Between
Our Food, Our Immunity and Our Planet - got my attention. And, for
the most part, the authors succeed in making their central point.
They connect the dots between the quality of the soil, the harvest,
our immune system, and our health. This level of holistic thinking
is an important foundational piece of any conversation about the
systems that are involved in creating personal and planetary health.
Touch
for Health: A Practical Guide to Natural Health Using Acupressure
Touch and Massage to Improve Postural Balance and Reduce Physical
and Mental Pain and Tension (Spiral-bound) by
John F. Thie
Dr
John Thie, founder of Touch for Health and one of the co-founders
of Applied Kinesiology, passed away in August 2005 but his love
of humanity and his quest to bring healing and natural health into
every family lives on in this and his other works. As a Touch For
Health Instructor since 1989, Dr Blumenthal has seen people from
every background imaginable take up and use the tools in the Touch
For Health system to improve their health and their friends and
family’s health. This book has also been the springboard for
countless people like Dr B who went back to school and became Doctors
of Chiropractic. In this newest edition, the material is even more
easily accessible and well laid out. Every family should have at
least one copy of this essential resource.
