Applied Kinesiology (AK)

Applied Kinesiology is the essence of integrative or wholistic medicine. Represented by the Triad of Health, AK integrates the disciplines of Chiropractic, Clinical Nutrition, and Functional Neurology to take the standards of diagnosis and treatment to a higher level. By considering each patient as a whole and individual person and looking for the causes underlying their health issues, AK is uniquely able to identify root causes of chronic and complex health problems and choose the right therapies to meet your specific needs. We’ll explain both what AK is and what it is not.

Chiropractic

Chiropractic is much more than adjusting vertebrae, although this certainly is an important part of what chiropractors do. As the leading experts in conservative non-drug therapies, doctors of chiropractic correct imbalances in all the bodies systems. Structurally, we work with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, other soft tissues, and bones using a wide range of tools. Dr. Blumenthal prefers to use the gentlest approaches possible and he is certified in several different chiropractic techniques which are described on the following pages.

Clinical Nutrition

Your body depends on chemical reactions to create mental and physical energy, define your moods, store and retrieve memories, run your digestive, immune, and reproductive systems, and just about everything else you do. Even sleep and blood pressure depend on your chemistry. Dr. Blumenthal holds a Diplomate in Clinical Nutrition and uses vitamins, minerals, amino acids, enzymes, herbs, and homeopathic remedies to correct and balance your body’s chemistry and make it run smoothly.

Functional Neurology

Your nervous system is your body’s “information superhighway”. Completely interdependent and intertwined with your body’s chemistry, this electrical system carries messages from your senses to tell you where you are in time and space and to your muscles and organs to respond accordingly. When everything is working in synch, we respond to our environment appropriately. When we don’t, things can go seriously awry. Dr. Blumenthal is board eligible in neurology and, from autism, Asperger’s and ADHD to movement disorders, traumatic brain injuries, balance problems, post-stroke, and Parkinson’s, we work closely with brain and nervous system based problems by balancing function.

Interactive Metronome Training (IM)
As an outgrowth of functional neurology, Interactive Metronome training is a drug-free brain training technology which is effective at turning on the parts of the brain used in timing, planning, sequencing, focusing, and attending. Clinically, IM is exceptional for treating Asperger’s (high functioning autism), attention deficits, OCD and Tourette’s, and for restoring function in post-stroke and traumatic brain injury patients as well as selected mild to moderate Parkinson’s and dementia patients. IM is also phenomenal at increasing academic and sports performance. Typically, math fluency increases by 1 ½ grade levels, reading by more than 2 grade levels and mental processing speed by nearly 3 grade levels following about a month of IM training. Golf shot accuracy can increase by 20-28% and “in the Zone” concentration and focus can increase by magnitudes.
